In the late 1970s Susanna Burton was commissioned to use her photo-journalistic flair
to create a reminiscent collection of places and people of Parnell which
was a showcase for Auckland and indeed New Zealand trends.
The book called 'Parnell' was published through Millwood Press
and Jack Leigh wrote the script.
The original black and white images have remained with Susanna
for thirty years but are finally on the market to be sold as an entire
collection. These prints are unique as there are no negatives.
The copyright will be sold with the prints.
Susanna remembers the fun she had knocking on people's doors asking if
they minded her photographing their homes for a book. Invitations abounded
and she had afternoon tea with the mayoress and an umu with the local Samoans
on the same day.
Much has changed in fashions and lifestyle since and many buildings have
been demolished which all adds to the value of this historic and artistic
collection.
Susanna is open to expressions of interest.
